We'll visit the most popular spots in Higashiyama area including Fushimi Inari shrine, which will give you a basic idea of Japanese traditional culture.
We'll visit both Buddhism temple and Shinto shrine so that you'll see Japanese mixed religious culture, and also by visiting Gion District and Nishiki market, you'll see the typical Kyoto scenery in both touristy and local way.
There are many shops and food stands selling Japanese stuff in Higashiyama area, where you can find lovely souvenirs foodie experience and even though you don't plan to shop anything, they're good places to get a lot of knowledge of Japan.

My children and I had a really good day leaving central Tokyo to see the some nature in the mountains with Tokie. Tokie took us to places that tourists would find hard to go on their own. It was a wonderful tour, got to see the inside of Osaka Castle, got to eat great food at the Dotonbori District, all while having a really engaging conversation with the tour guide (she spoke perfect English to boot)!
